If anyone has any ideas for challenges or would like to run one, please reply here. Have a great week!
Greetings beloved pixeler,

First, I wish you magnificent insight and inspirations in all aspects of life within and without.

Second, I am extending the "Pixels of Gratitude" challenge till the end of December.

Will you join?

I'm extending the due date to be the first day of the new year 2017!

What is the theme? Gratitude. Make whatever pixel art you want, but the most important thing is to imbue the process of creating it with gratitude. As you pixel and create, think and feel deeply and continuously, "I am grateful." That's all. Then submit it to the group's Pixels of Gratitude gallery folder.

Let us end this year with gratitude, and begin the new year with gratitude.

I also increased the point totals. First place prize will be 1111 points.

Entries may be judged on things like quality of the pixel art, creativity in the composition and subject, artist's style, and how inspiring of gratitude the subject and composition feels.

Thank you,
3.
Edit: Deadline extended until Jan. 1, 2017

Time for the first ever pixelgiri challenge! (with prizes!)

❰ Theme ❱ Gratitude ( thankfulness, appreciation, gratefulness )

You and I have an inherent power to be grateful.

In the deepest sense, the powers of love, joy, and gratitude are yours to experience at will, and YOU (really, you!) have the birth-right to embody and share love, joy, and gratitude without reason, whenever you are, wherever you are, whatever you do, regardless of external circumstances or the situation you find yourself in.

Gratitude that comes one minute and leaves the next as situations change is like a breeze that comes and goes.

True Gratitude is like the air itself. True gratitude just is, regardless of what may be happening around it. Be grateful for it all. The whole that encompasses and allows each and every moment within the whole that completes and allows the whole to be. It's all connected.

That you can breathe, that you can read these words, that you can think for yourself, that you are able to see and hear and wonder.
Just being is enough to be grateful for, and just being is enough to be grateful with.

No matter where we are in the world, and no matter what is happening around us or to us, we always have this power to be grateful. This inward sanctuary is always available within while we wander the world without. Even without words or thoughts, we can light ablaze a deeper wordless and thoughtless gratitude within ourselves.

   You have everything you need.

   I have everything I need.

   We have everything we need.

   I am grateful.

And I am grateful to you; thank you for being a part of Pixelgiri.

   --- --- ---

How does one make pixel art that has the theme of gratitude? Well, that's where your creativity comes in. What does gratitude mean to you personally? What are some gestures that embody the essence of gratitude? What comes to mind when you think about gratitude? What comes to mind when you feel gratitude?

Another recommendation I have is to mentally repeat the phrase, "I am grateful" for every pixel you draw. Infuse your pixel art with gratitude!!!

Excited to see what you think up and create!

This theme is meant to be open-ended. The important thing is to summon up a deep sense of gratitude while you create your pixel art. It may just result in your greatest master-piece, yet!

Greetings, pixelgiribais~!

I am filled with gratitude and joy to share this group with you!

We have a folder in the group called Share and receive constructive feedback

I am looking for a handful of volunteers to help with giving feedback particularly to artworks posted to that folder.

Anyone may apply, especially those who will be respectful and encouraging, and who are passionate about helping others grow. Hopefully in doing so, we refine our own understanding of pixel art.

Having some experience with pixel art and general art fundamentals (colors/palettes, shading, dithering, antialiasing, etc) is ideal, but not required. With experience, we have more tips and knowledge that we can share with others in our feedback. However, just the act of writing feedback will build this experience and you will hopefully learn whatever you need to as you go along!

The task associated with this position is simple. Whenever you feel like it, you can browse the feedback gallery folder and if there's anything that you feel compelled to leave constructive feedback for, just post some helpful tips to help the artist out!

The feedback should be considerate, constructive, actionable (meaning it is clearly stated so that the artist can apply it the work in question), and more objective than subjective. It's better to leave just one or two small friendly suggestions for improvement to encourage the artist without overwhelming them.

Also, you will be listed on the front page of the group as a pixel pupil or pixel philospher, so if people have questions or really want feedback, they might send you a note asking for help or feedback.

Potential benefits:
  • Shiny membership title of "Pixel Pupil" upon being accepted
  • Overall improvement in your ability for providing constructive art critique
  • Improvement in your own pixel art skills and knowledge by virtue of needing to expand to help others
  • Potential improved perspective and insight in your own approach to pixel art
  • Potential promotion to "Pixel Philospher" after some time (2-3 months) of active and meaningful contribution (feedback across 30+ different artists' artworks), and having created and submitted one or more tutorials that address some of the more common and important issues you came across in giving feedback

To apply:
Post here or send a note to the group!

Thanks for your time and consideration!

Pixelgiriiiii ~ fight !
This is not directly related to hand-made pixel art, but it touches on the origins of pixelated images and art as a necessary medium based on technological constraints. It explains why dithering is necessary and how it is technically possible.

How do you incorporate dithering into your artwork? Feel free to post links to any of your deviations in the replies, and I can edit them into this message. ^_^
